Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
Before somebody jumps to conclusions, I don't glitch in public matches.
Re: Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
yea that´s crazy, but you can get killed by a silenced UMP45 from the other side of the map !?

No different than World at War. Try to snipe from column to column on Downfall. Won't happen.
Good find in MW2 though.

Yeah... seriously. I've been able to snipe people with an UMP+ACOG across the map but not with a sniper rifle. Seriously?

Re: Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
the funny thing is these sniper rifles(including the ones in WaW) can reach 1mile in range easy, and not one map in the call of duty franchise is half a mile. (unless you were to consider wasteland-mw2. merely because if you run around the whole map it would be approx. 3/4 a mile).
so what im saying here is, why can't some sniper rifles can't reach your target, when the game is supposed to be realistic?

@Taffy Apple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniper_rifle#Maximum_effective_range
I think that answers the question. The last three cartridges have a one mile range. And with the length of some of the maps, I think the guns even with .300 winchester cartridges could hit the people across the map.
Yeahh... I know my guns.

Re: Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
That is immense. It takes some shooter to hit a target from that range. i bet they have to take everything into account, i bet even a bird flying across the flight path could alter bullett at that range,
Anyways thanks for posting that
Jesus, that has a range of nearly 1.8 miles and has a 700 gram round weight.
BUT IT DOESNT HALF LOOK LIKE THE INTERVENTION,LOL
AND THE INTERVENTION ISNT A 1 SHOT KILL RIFLE,LOL

Re: Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
Slightly OT, I know, but hopefully interesting.
A circa 1916 Lee Enfield .303 rifle:
Lee Enfield .303 "Volley" sights:
"Early Lee rifles are frequently found with a peculiar rotating arm halfway down the left hand side of the fore-end, and a flip-up peep sight affair on the left rear portion of the receiver. These are the so-called “volley” sights, and are designed for mass firing at extremely long range. One rotates the front arm until the pointer indicates the desired range which can be set from a low of 2000 yards up to an incredible 3500 yards (1,760 yards in a mile).
One then flips up the rear peep sight, lines this up with the stud on the front arm (at which stage the rifle is being held not unlike a mortar) and lets fly at the extremely distant target. One was not, of course, expected to actually hit any individual with such a system, but it was supposed to be used by large concentrations of troops firing in volleys against other far distant enemy troop concentrations."
Surprising to learn that even back in the early 1900s there was a rifle capapble of killing at a range of 2 miles!

Re: Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
Yeah, MW2 is not too sniper friendly. Which makes snipers like me feel super badass when I'm usually one of the major players at the end of every match. I honestly prefer sniping in WaW, though the same range effects still exists...

Because Activision tries to balance realistic/fun to make a game that is fun to a wider variety of people. If the game was 100% realistic many wouldn't be fans of CoD, if the game was less realistic, then many fans who have played CoD because of the realistic factor wouldn't be playing.
Sure the range may not be realistic, but try running with a heavy sniper in real life and quick scoping someone 1/2-1 mile away while standing up. We could go on and on about how things are/aren't realistic in CoD, but I believe they've done a pretty decent job and the major flaws such as akimbo 1887s have been patched.

The sniper rifles do have infinite range on MW2, if your not outside of the map, now on WaW I don't think they did.

Let's not forget it's rare for a sniper to use an ACOG on their rifle... and that they don't stay in the same place after making their shot/kill.

Re: Fun Fact; Snipers don't have unlimited range
Maybe sniping in World at War and Modern Warfare2 is realistic. Remember the mission 'One Shot One Kill' in Call of Duty4? The one where you ATTEMPT to assassinate Zakhaev? Yeah, I do at least. Anyway, remember when Capt. Macmillan was telling you about wind changes and and stuff? Maybe have you to take that into account in WaW MW2? Its just a theory but it could work. Also, there is something called gravity. As bullets travel through air towards your target, they tend sink down due to gravity. So, next time you snipe someone from far away, aim a bit above their soon-to-have-hole head.
