Thoughts on MW2 Capture The Flag

So those us who love Capture The Flag asked for it in CoD4 and were denied. Now it looks like they've added it to MW2, but something seems a little off about this version.

The aspects that are bugging me are the kill icon above the flag carrier's head and the fact that the flag will auto-return to the home base when dropped.

I will say that I can't fully judge the mode from the small clip that we were shown, nor will I. These are my observations thus far.

Thoughts?

After watchin the vid a couple more times, I'd agree with you....Kind of an odd take on CTF from my perspective.. THat being said, I flipped again last night and have gotten back into CTF on W@W and really lovin it again... Hope the version in MW2 is just as fun... Very Happy

I'd just rather them not call it CTF, because it's not. The reason they've added CTF is because we've been begging for it since CoD4. Those of us who have been begging for it want CTF as we know it, not CTF as MW2 knows it.

I just see it as a weird move.

It's not CTF, and it's not Sabotage....so it's Flagotage.

IW should probably just go ahead and rename it.

Doesn't bother me. I have a feeling that CTF is going to have riot shields all over the place though. I'll be who can smack the other player with a shield faster.

Yes I agree not the CTF old school style more of a combined CTF/Sabotage - and I agree the shields are going to be everywhere

I like Flagotage.. Personally, I REALLY like W@W's CTF...cant honestly say when I played it before that I enjoyed it as much as on W@W.... If it's not going to be very similar to that, I'll probably pass on the MW2 version....

Maybe, just maybe it's called "Flag Runner". IW's version of CTF.

Looks amazing, no matter what they call it. And it'll still be Capture the Flag, deep down past the flesh and guts of it.

I hope it doesn't auto reset once it's dropped, that'll be a pain. I'm not a fan of the shields, but it'll be interesting how players will use them. They looked pretty useful on the CQC maps.

You know, i have to agree with everything matt said. Whats the fun of returning the flag as soon as the carrier is killed? i do hope they change it.

Maybe they wanted to make the game last longer? In WaW you could just rush the flags and win the match really fast.

Maybe you're right, as well as the possibility of MW2 CTF being a bit tougher than what we've come to know.

Instead of running over a flag to pick it up at the enemy base, you'll have to fill the bar. Instead of relying on a teammate to finish the job after you've dropped the flag, it auto-returns thus starting the cap process over again.

I'm torn.

I love it. Sure, it'll be frustrating for me when I'm trying to score, but then I won't have to worry about enemies infiltrating and the flag guy dying with one of his teammates finishing the job. Will feel like less work in defending the flag, and a little more in scoring. Usually I get stuck with a piss poor team in WaW, so I have to attempt to do both jobs, but with this sort of mode I can rely a little more on other teammates.

Definately some good thoughts in this thread. I was very skeptical when i first saw the video. But I agree, this could definately make it more strategic offensively if the carrier only has to be taken down to reset the flag. This will definately make for some aggrevating returns since you gotta sit on the plant area for a second as well (and hope you don't get shot). I'm not sure how well this mode will work in HC (or perhaps it wont be HC at all). Perhaps returns would be necessary or maybe a second or two would need to be passed before it auto returned.

I personally don't mind this new CTF Very Happy

At first I was worried about the flag auto-returning but luckily it doesn't Very Happy

By default, the flags do not return themselves, that was a setting that happened to be on during that particular game.
