MW2 Leaderboards reset

Infinity Ward says it's planning to perform a full wipe of Modern Warfare 2's online leaderboards and stats before release, to ensure that players who've obtained leaked copies of the game don't have an "unfair advantage".

Speaking via Twitter, community man Robert Bowling said: "It definitely looks like a full leaderboard / level reset is in order just before the release date to ensure no unfair advantages."

My opinion This is good it gives players who get it on realease and fair chance and it also punishes the players who got it By torrent or factory leak.

The people who have the game early will still have an unfair advantage, as they've been able to learn the maps and new gameplay techniques. Resetting the boards is a nice gesture though.

but it never dose take long to learn the maps

definitely a good call there

wouldn't/shouldn't something happen to the people's accounts who do have the leaked/pirated game? (at the very least a temp account ban imo)

I agree, I think that any one who played MW2 before the released date should get a minimum week or two ban plus the reset of their stats. I think this is one of the few ways that would help cut down the amount of earlier players. Stopping stores from giving them out completely is impossible but having known punishments for anyone trying to get a jump start on the game would remove advantages but more importantly keep the game more of a surprise.

Banning someone who bought a legit copy of the game would cause alot of legal problems. Its not their fault that a store sold them early. They jus took advantage of it.

But a full reset of the game is awesome.

Maybe in their current situation but I'm sure IW could easily prevent it more if they wished.
- Simply shutdown xbl or have all the game-types closed for MW2 until the release date
- Maybe the couldn't actually put a week or two ban but if public notices were made and even a notice inside each game saying the consequences of playing online. I'm sure they have plenty of lawyers that could take care of any legal problems. I doubt the average user would spend thousands of dollars in court over a week ban from MW2 xbox live only.

I agree... I think I'll commit to a bunch of Private Matches with my clan, learn the maps a bit and then enter the fray of MP in a week or two after release. Besides I'll be too busy gaining all the SP and Spec Ops Achievements in the mean time.

I'll definately check out the maps in private matches before jumping in just to try to get an idea of a strategy. As many people in the world that will be playing this game, I don't think a handful of gamers that got it early will make that much of an impact.

This is why I LOVE IW. They actually RESET their leaderboards if someone cheated/modded (or in this case bought games before the actual release.)
